Frequently Asked Questions

What's involved in setting up a new alarm system?

At Guardian Integrated Security, we do our best to make the process of setting up a new alarm system as easy as possible. Simply give us a call and we'll provide you with a free, on-site consultation and estimate. During this visit, we'll inspect your property and all of its access points and gain an understanding of any specific security concerns and preferences. We'll also go over our three security system package tiers: Basic Security, HomeTouch® Security, and HomeTouch® Premier. Our basic business and home security package includes installation, security equipment, 24/7 alarm monitoring, and a wireless security panel with a full-color, touch-screen interface (valued at $1500). From there, you can pick and choose from optional add-ons, such as fire and carbon monoxide monitoring, medical monitoring, remote lighting control, remote thermostat control, remote video and image capture, and more.

How quickly can I install my business or home alarm system?

Based in Chatsworth, California, Guardian Integrated Security is dedicated to providing timely security system installation services for the entire San Fernando Valley area. We're constantly expanding our employee roster and can typically complete security system installations within 24-hours. For your added convenience, we are available Monday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m..

Do I need an alarm permit at my San Fernando Valley home?

Most cities in the San Fernando Valley area require an alarm permit, including Canoga Park, Chatsworth, Encino, Granada Hills, North Hills, North Hollywood, Northridge, Pacoima, Panorama City, Porter Ranch, Reseda, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Sun Valley, Sylmar, Tarzana, Valley Glen, Valley Village, Van Nuys, West Hills, Winnetka, and Woodland Hills.

To be safe, check with your local city hall or county office. If an alarm permit is required in your area, then submit your permit request online by visiting the Los Angeles Office of Finance's online permit request webpage. You will be required to fill out a short form and pay an annual fee of $37 for commercial or residential alarms with monitoring.

How do you determine which security equipment to use and where to install it?

With a large selection of motion sensors, shock sensors, glass-break sensors, garage sensors, and more, we have a wide selection of security equipment to suit most property types, sizes, and layouts. We can install both hardwired and wireless security systems, and can sometimes reprogram existing security systems (depending on the panel type and whether or not the previous homeowner is contractually obligated with another alarm monitoring company). We are also knowledgeable in determining the most vulnerable access points in your home or business. We can designate security zones (i.e., downstairs, upstairs, garage, outside, etc.) using sensors that run in a series; assist you in adapting security systems to accommodate unique property features, such as glass doors, french doors, hinged doors, and automatic garage doors; and help you strategize the most cost-effective security solution for your property.

What are my options for installing a home security system if I don't have a landline?

Studies have shown that the presence of surveillance cameras, alarm chimes, and other security equipment can be enough to deter intruders and burglars. If, however, you want to enhance your home security system with 24-hour alarm monitoring and other advanced security capabilities, then you're options include:

  • Purchasing a minimum-use phone line dedicated for use with your home alarm system;
  • Adding a cellular communicator to your security panel to send signals wirelessly;
  • Taking advantage of high speed internet using a DSL cable service and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)--in some circumstances, however, this option can compromise the integrity of your security system; click here to learn more.
What happens to my alarm monitoring service if I move?

As an Authorized Monitronics Dealer, Guardian Integrated Security is able to provide you with flexible moving options.

If you've been a customer for one year or more, then take advantage of Monitronics' Free Move Program. It allows you to transfer your alarm monitoring service (without a disruption in service) to your new home. The program offers free security equipment, free installation, free activation, and free extended monitoring services. You'll even enjoy the same monthly rate, unless you choose to add additional security services. To get started, simply give us a call. Within three business days, one of our security technicians will arrive at your new home to activate your new service. Conditions may apply.

Additional options include arranging for the incoming homeowners to take over your current home alarm system and contract; or, pending certain requirements. transferring your alarm monitoring service to a family member or friend at another location. If none of these options are acceptable, then you can simply pay off the remaining balance on your service agreement.

I am thinking about switching my phone service. Will my alarm still be able to communicate?

We generally recommend our customers call prior to switching their phone service as our alarm systems need a way to communicate with Monitronics' Alarm Response Center.

How can I reduce false alarms?

To prevent the inconvenience associated with false alarms, we recommend following the below checklist:

  • Familiarize yourself with using your alarm system.
  • Learn what happens when a panic button is triggered.
  • Establish an alarm verification protocol that suits your lifestyle.
  • Make sure those with access to your property know how to use your alarm and have access to relevant codes.
  • Test your system once a month (Click here to learn how.).
  • Update your emergency contact numbers.
  • Be aware of your security system's triggers, making sure to secure doors and windows before arming your alarm and investing in pet-immune motion sensors if you own pets.
  • Calendar how frequently to change out alarm batteries (or invest in a panel that will notify you when batteries are low).
  • Cover smoke detectors prior to remodeling, building repairs, major cleaning, and construction.
  • Call prior to remodeling.
What do I do if my alarm seems to be malfunctioning?

Give us a call and we'll arrange for a specialist to test your alarm. Depending upon the results of this test, we'll also help you with additional troubleshooting. Most of our security equipment is backed by 90-day manufacturer warranties and eligible for extended warranties and service contracts. Call to learn more.
